Compare Business Water Rates Across the UK

Most businesses have never switched water retailer — which means most are overpaying. Since the market opened, you can choose who bills you. We compare business water rates and handle the switch. Free, no obligation.

England's open water market, explained

Before April 2017, your regional water company was your only option. Now, businesses in England can pick their retailer — the company that bills you and manages your account — while the regional wholesaler keeps delivering the water through the same pipes. Scotland's market opened even earlier, in 2008.

Wholesale charges are set, so retailers compete on their margin, customer service and extras like consolidated multi-site billing, water efficiency audits and trade effluent management. If you have never reviewed your water contract, you are almost certainly on default terms that were never negotiated.

Retailer margin

The retailer's cut on top of wholesale charges. This is where competition — and your saving — lives.

Metered vs unmetered

Metered billing charges actual usage; unmetered uses rateable value. The right structure depends on your consumption.

Trade effluent

Businesses discharging process wastewater need the right consent and charging band.

Multi-site billing

One bill, one retailer, every site. Simpler admin and stronger negotiating leverage.

What affects your business water bill?

Your bill is built from wholesale water and sewerage charges plus your retailer's fees. Usage is the obvious driver, but leaks, faulty meters and wrong tariff bands quietly inflate bills too. A proper review checks all of it — not just the headline rate.

We benchmark your current arrangement against competing retailers, flag anything that looks wrong (estimated reads, incorrect drainage charges, missing leak allowances), and line up a switch if the numbers work. You keep the same water, the same pipes — just a better deal.

Share your water bill

Your SPID numbers let retailers identify each supply point and quote accurately.

We compare retailers

Competing quotes benchmarked against your current deal, with any billing errors flagged.

Switch with zero disruption

Accept a quote and the transfer is handled for you. Your water supply never changes.

Business water FAQs

Can UK businesses switch water supplier?
Yes. Since April 2017 the English business water market has been open, so companies can choose their retailer. The physical water still comes through the same pipes; only the billing and customer service change.
What is a SPID number?
The SPID (Supply Point Identification) is the unique reference for each water supply point at your premises, shown on your bill. Retailers use it to identify your supply and build an accurate quote.
How much can switching water retailer save?
Wholesale water charges are fixed, so savings come from the retailer's margin, better tariffs and consolidated billing. Businesses commonly save a meaningful percentage, especially multi-site operations.
Does switching water retailer affect my supply?
No. Your regional wholesaler still delivers the water and maintains the network. Switching only changes who bills you and handles your account.
What is trade effluent and does it matter?
Trade effluent is wastewater from industrial or commercial processes. If your business discharges anything beyond normal domestic-type waste, you may need a trade effluent consent, and the right retailer can manage this for you.
